About

Café Zero is founded to adore that the food is hygienic, made with local ingredients, and enhanced with a passion of cooking and serving for customers of all levels, so establishing suitable environmentally friendly management within the café and impacting nature and environment. This also encourages sharing the impacts generated within the café, as well as demonstrating how customers may embrace these and apply them to improve their healthy living and understand the challenges around food waste.

From farm to table, every bite we take has a journey; grown by farmers, delivered to markets, and prepared in kitchens. We nourish ourselves with food, savor its flavors, and celebrate its importance in our lives. Yet, how often do we pause to reflect on the deep inequalities within our food system where some over-consume while others face daily hunger? This initiative is part of the "Piloting a Zero Waste Café Model in Nepal" program, which is supported by DCA in collaboration with ISET Nepal and Blue Waste To Value.

Message from DCA Nepal

For many years, we have measured progress by how much we produce and consume. But working at the intersection of climate, development, and justice in Nepal has shown me that this model is no longer sustainable - especially in a country of fragile mountains, fertile plains, and climate-vulnerable communities. After completing my PhD in January 2024, I felt a renewed responsibility to move beyond research and turn conviction into action. At DCA Nepal, this conviction led us to initiate the concept of sustainable consumption—not as a slogan, but as a living practice that reduces harm, respects ecosystems, and safeguards the future. Our entry point was food. In a time when food is simultaneously wasted in some spaces and scarce in others, when its true environmental footprint is rarely visible, we chose to begin by valuing food differently. This gave birth to Café Zero, a pilot initiative designed to minimize food waste, encourage responsible sourcing and portioning, and spark conversations about the food value chain and its climate impact. Through this small but symbolic step, we are making environmental footprints visible, from office kitchens to community households, reminding ourselves and our partners that every meal connects farmers, markets, families, and the environment we all depend on. This initiative aligns closely with DCA’s Strategy 2022–2026, where climate action is central to our mission.

Moving forward, we are committed to scaling sustainable consumption more thoughtfully and gracefully—embedding it into how we plan, procure, partner, and lead—so that the change we advocate for in society is reflected in our own daily choices.

Fresh ingredients from organic farms

We encourage local women farmers to cultivate their products organically, without the use of hazardous chemical fertilizers and pesticides, so that we can receive fresher and healthier farm produce for our cafe.

The food was amazing!

The food was amazing! The buffalo chicken was nothing like I have ever had it was lightly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Their fish options are also pretty good! The mustang aaloo is a must if you go here. They are newly opened but the food was truly delicious!
