We have the privilege of hosting a DCA internal team meeting at our café beginning at 8 a.m. The Café Zero generally opens at 11 a.m., and we used to provide food and beverages from 12 p.m. onwards; but we received a request from them and arranged to give a breakfast meeting space at our Café.
Following the meeting, the Chef of Café, Mr. Krishna Maharjan, provided a delicious breakfast to the team and had a short sharing session for visitors from Cambodia, Myanmar, and Denmark, which was coordinated through DCA offices with varied portfolios on their individual project areas.
The session began with a self-introduction, and everyone liked sharing their names and backgrounds with a grin and a welcome attitude. The event began with a brief presentation on the café's progress and operation in Kathmandu. Ms. Palistha Maharjan, the project executive, shared the presentation; the step-by-step progress achieved from the café is being watched with attention by everybody, and there are various questions about it.
Queries about the elements used in the café, such as how effective microorganisms are, the use of vermi-composting bins in use at the café, which could have illustrated for the customers, which also complements the marketing of the bins, products from the farm are nicely kept, and new ideas on the young generation who can have an interest in the café activities and their impacts, which could have leveraged out to the public attraction. It also helps customers expand their awareness of waste management and food safety issues, which is one of the café's goals.
Dr. Samjhana Bista, Country Director of DCA in Nepal, spoke about the intriguing aspects of Blue Waste to Value (BW2V), which has supported activities related to one of the EU-funded projects in one of the municipalities in Kanchanpur, as well as providing training to the entire team at the Nepal office and establishing the composting unit at the Nepal office with great relations and knowledge of the actions and working culture. DCA used to understand the difficulties of food waste and its safety, therefore they worked on project concept development together with Blue Waste to Value, and thus the café was built and created for the people of Kathmandu.
Mr. Majil Sherchan, DCA's Programme Funding Manager in Nepal, spoke about the excessive food waste generated by the functions, which will also be put to good use. This is one of the project's key initiatives, since it would have leveraged emission reduction practices for all stages of food preparation, gathering, salvage, and wise consumption. Ms. Krity Shrestha, Climate Action Advisor for DCA in Nepal, offered suggestions to educate the younger generation to grasp carbon emission calculations so that they can rapidly see the effects of the results they make with clean food meals on their plate.
Mr. Nabin Bikash Maharjan, on behalf of the Café Zero, has taken all of the criticisms and informed the participants that the café only launched a month ago and that the crew has been working on it. He also shared the coordination with various stakeholders whose goals are incompatible with the café's goals of food conservation and service, health, and the environment. Coming Friday evening, December 12, 2025, the café will also host a "TALK Session" with Sakal Bio-enzyme, whose products are used in the café and are also available for purchase at the café's kiosks.
The team is encouraged to make proper arrangements for events and services, and the café hopes that people who visit and have experiences will have integral knowledge and recommend the services further, as well as greater networking for the benefit of the environment, food savings, and recognition of the efforts put forward by all agents of food production and management in the service value chain.
Before concluding the session and participation, the café team and participants must take a mandatory on-camera photo for memories.
We appreciate you all!
